Texas Sheet Cake

Chocolate sheet cake is a traditional dessert that is perfect for pot lucks and casual get-togethers.  This specific recipe came from my Grandma’s recipe box:

Cake:

1 stick butter
1/2 cup Crisco
1 cup water
4 T. cocoa
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk mixed with 1 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon

Mix butter, Crisco, water and cocoa in a sauce pan and let come to a boil ~ cool.  Sift flour and sugar & mix with chocolate mixture and  buttermilk with soda dissolved in it.  Beat in eggs.  Add vanilla & cinnamon.  Bake in a sheet pan at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until done.

Icing:

1 stick butter
4 T. cocoa
6 T. sweet milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. salt
1 box powdered sugar
1 cup nuts (I omitted due to nut allergy)

Heat butter, cocoa & milk.  Add salt.  Add full box of powdered sugar.  Mix well.  Add nuts.  You may ice cake while it is still warm.

What is sweet milk? Condensed milk? That’s the only thing I can think of…
