Every year, Laura Tremaine spears a day in November where Instagram users take photos of the “real everyday” moments and share them on Insta with the tag #OneDayHH. I’ve participated in the past but missed last year, and was happy to participate again this year.
Obviously, I enjoy the creative aspect of photographing the “ordinary” in fun ways. But this day becomes much more than that. It has become a way for thousands of people to connect on a level that says, “What I do in my day is important. I matter.” It becomes raw and beautiful and fun and important. It’s validating in a way and serves as a gentle reminder that not all life is picture-perfect, and that’s okay. And you KNOW I’m a fan of that premise!
I thought I’d share my “OneDay” here on the blog in case you are not a follower on Instagram. Here’s just one day of my life… hour by hour… minute by minute. I’m posting the original captions for the photos below them as well.
6:04 am. Good Morning! Let’s do this! My “Pillow” app tells me each morning how well I️ slept the night before…
6:17 am. Coffee. Always.
6:41 am. Every morning Ginny crawls in the shower and licks the floor. Except of course not this morning because that would mean doing something expected of her. Cuz, you know, cats.
7:15 am. Tonight is opening night for her theatre production and they have a tradition here of “dressing up” for school the day of. This trooper has walking pneumonia and is still doing all the things.
7:22 a.m. Dropping off #2 for morning band sectionals.
7:53 a.m. What #1 does on her way to school.
8:09 a.m. She’s supposed to be getting ready for school…
8:18 a.m. The last one’s off for the bus. The stop is two doors down from our house.
8:29 a.m. Relishing the quiet while planning the day. Yes, my Christmas tree is up. There should be no judgement on #OneDayHH
9:20 a.m. I’ve had a cucumber beetle infestation on my lemon tree so every morning I’ve been knocking them off of the tree into a jar of soapy water.
10:02 a.m. Had to scrape the bottom of the tub last night to feed the kitties. For some reason they think they’re starving this morning. Oops! Food is on the way!!
10:40 a.m. Laundry. P.S. The cats are much happier now.
11:37 a.m. Leftovers and DDP for lunch. Fueled and ready to unload the dishwasher.
12:31 p.m. Prepping the after-school snack a bit early today since it has to bake in the oven for an hour. I’ve been making @melskitchencafe ‘s recipe for Butter Toffee Popcorn for several years now. It’s so yummy!
12:51 p.m. Yep. Just pulled that out of the dryer. I’m bad at remembering to check pockets… #Oops! #IHateLaundry
2:18 p.m. This pan is a crazy sticky mess and thankfully disposable. Popcorn is yummy though. (Had to make sure it was edible…)
3:13 p.m. Had a few minutes of calm before the chaos of the afternoon to enjoy a little Bible journaling.
3:39 This cat spends SO much time in this sunny spot. She and Molly keep me company during the days while the girls are at school. Pets really do make good companions. They make the days less lonely but aren’t too needy.
3:49 p.m. Was headed out the door to pick up the girls and spotted this vibrant rainbow by the fish tank!
4:36 p.m. Found some cuties who needed a ride home.
5:43 p.m. Dinner then homework.
6:42 p.m. Opening night!
8:32 p.m. Proud Daddy.
8:40 p.m. Snow Queen Cast. Such a fun show!
9:24 p.m. Goodnight friends! It’s been fun.
