One Bite at a Time ~ Week 12

So, on my quest for simple living, I’m learning to be more with less.  The topic from “One Bite at a Time” this week is to declutter your wardrobe.  I actually started this a few weeks ago.  It’s no secret that laundry is the bane of my existence.  I loathe laundry!  My new thinking is that if I have fewer clothes, it will make me launder them more often, and I’ll stay on top of it… none of this loads and loads and loads stuff.  Of course, this will only work if I attack my girls’ closets too, but that’s something I’m saving for next week.

About a year ago, I came across the idea of Project 333.  The basic premise is that you live on 33 articles of clothing and accessories for 3 months.  I know.  Scary.  (Undergarments and pjs don’t count toward your 33 – so that helps).  Anyway, I loved the idea, but WOW that seems drastic.  I put the idea on the back burner to mull over now and then.

A few weeks ago, I went through my closet and did a major purge.  I just have so many clothes that I either don’t wear or don’t love or that don’t fit right… I needed to let go.  So, I went through my closet and it’s looking a lot better.  I don’t know what made me decide that now is the time to do Project 333, but I suddenly got the urge to just take the plunge.  There’s no time like the present!

So, today, I am working on making my list of 33.  This is HARD, y’all.  I’m not getting rid of everything.  I do plan to donate some, but since I just took three bags of clothes to Goodwill earlier this month, I will probably just be boxing most of my clothes for now to see how it goes.  Plus, I have some cooler weather clothes still packed away that I will probably need to switch out at some point.

As I’m working on making my list, I’m realizing I have poor fashion sense.  I have all these cute skirts, but I don’t know what tops to put with them… or I have scarves that I really love, but I’m not sure what to wear them with.  So, 85% of the time, I end up in jeans and a t-shirt (usually solid).  What I really need is a fashion diva to just come in and tell me what works together.  Any volunteers?  Hmm… maybe not.  You’d have to walk through my bedroom to get to my closet, and it’s a disaster.

So, my bite this week is a big one!  I’ll keep you posted as to how it goes!

Hang in there! You will get it done and yes, it will make your laundry so much easier to do! I have told Scha that one reason we never had loads of laundry to do when they were growing up was because we had very few items of clothing so they got washed very frequently! If you are out of clean socks and undies, you have to wash….. You could always wear those scarves with your solid t-shirt and jeans to add a new twist! If Mallory’s or the other girls’ taste and yours are similar and you think they have good fashion sense, ask them! The other thing you might do is lay your clothes out on the bed or floor a few at a time, and mix and match them that way so you are not having to try them on a jillion times. Once you have some outfits, instagram them and thumbtack them on the lip of the closet shelf so you can remember what you had put together. You can also use the scarves in your hair…. Your shoulders are not broad as a line backers like mine so you could drape the scarves over your shoulders…Go onto pinterest and look at the way they are wearing them and then go for it… I figure your girls would tell you if it looks cool, not so cool or is a fashion don’t! Have fun!

Thanks for the great ideas! I hadn’t even thought to involve my girls in helping picking through MY clothes. :)
