Monday Musings

Yes, I know it’s Tuesday.  But I started this post on Monday and it just took me that long to finish it…

I’m watching two squirrels chase each other through my backyard tree. They would be cute if I didn’t hear them do the same thing on a regular basis in my attic.

We are making tamales today with my Mother-in-Law. I considered wearing shorts, because it’s warm outside and I knew the kitchen would be hot, but honestly, I haven’t shaved my legs in two weeks, and it wasn’t worth it.

Our tamales turned out 20 times better than they did last year and it took us about 1/2 the time. The prep work and whipping the manteca made all the difference.

My children have been making orange juice out of fresh oranges that my father-in-law brings them from his yard.  Needless to say we’ve gone through quite a bit of oranges today.

My nice family activity of making a popcorn/cranberry garland didn’t turn out as fun as I hoped.  The younger two got frustrated and gave up way too quickly, and my oldest and I ended up finishing by ourselves.  Oh well.  At least they still look good.

I bought these cool Cuppow! lids and also these jar coozies on Etsy… and they arrived in the mail today.  I can’t wait to try them out tomorrow with my morning coffee.

I love listening to Mike Rowe’s (from Dirty Jobs) voice.  Did you know he used to be an opera singer?  For real.

Mama Train went home again, home again… I miss her already.

I pretty much pick out my husband’s clothes daily.  He has his “regulars” that he wears to work all the time, and each morning, I just grab a long-sleeved shirt and a pair of slacks to go with it, iron it, and he’s good to go.  And while I’m not really Betty Homemaker when it comes to keeping everything neat and tidy, I actually do kind of like ironing for him in the morning.  It makes me feel like I’m being a good little wife.

Speaking of my husband, he ran his first half-marathon this past weekend!  Over a crazy-tall bridge no less.  I am SO proud of him!  I am looking forward to 2013 and having my medical issues behind me so I can start running again.  We plan to start by doing a 5K as a family.

I need to go buy picture frames.

My little princess came downstairs this morning in a holiday party dress.  Whatever works.

Here’s to having a Happy Tuesday!
