Monday Musings

So, I may have mentioned I have a full time job now.  While I do love my new job, it’s been a big adjustment.  Obviously, one of the things that shuffled to the back-burner was the blog.  It’s feeling a bit neglected even though I think of things all the time that I should share.

Adjustment number two – I am exhausted!  I miss my time to do all the things.  I’m off this week, though, so trying to take advantage and get a lot done.

The first thing I did was take a 2 hour nap after I dropped the kids off at school this morning.

So, yeah, I haven’t been overly productive yet.  But I did schedule a dental appointment for this afternoon, which has been a long time coming.  I haven’t been in about 3 years since we changed insurance and our old dentist didn’t take ours anymore.  Yay for clean teeth.

Health-wise I feel great!  I am completely recovered from surgery and feel better than I have in a long time.  I’m doing my best to stay on the diet my doctor gave me before the surgery that was supposed to be a life-time change.  My best seems to be about 70% apparently.  I woke up with a resolve to make it a 100% week, and then the BlueBell came back to grocery store freezers in Texas today.  You non-Texans may not understand our love for BlueBell, but honestly, there is no replacement.  We haven’t bought ice cream since they pulled our beloved BlueBell from the shelves, and it’s like a national holiday around here.  My Facebook feed is blown up with posts and pictures of people buying their ice cream this morning.

Last week was the first week of school for my crew.  I have two in middle school and one in high school.  I really don’t feel old enough to have a child in high school.  How is this possible?  I blinked and she’s all grown up.  For the past five years, she has been schooled at home, and so this high school thing is a big transition for her that she has handled beautifully.  Last week, my husband dropped her off everyday, but this morning I took her.  I may or may not have had a few tears well up in the corners of my eyes.  I miss her.

The younger two are having a great year so far.  My middle child grew about 2 inches over the summer and all of a sudden looks so grown up.  (She finally is growing into her size NINE woman’s feet).  My baby turned ten this summer.  Ten.  As in all-of-my-children-are-now-in-double-digits ten.  Sigh.  Suffering from a bit of nostalgia lately.  Here is the obligatory first day of school picture:

I did take a “nice” one, but this one had a little more personality.  It was still dark outside, as my teenager starts school at 7:15 am.  (Seriously.  Crazy, right?!) So, no “by the front door” pics for our crew this year.

I mentioned in my last Monday Musings post a few weeks ago that I was considering getting a Journaling Bible.  Well, I did, and I am LOVING it.  I’m sure that it will get its own post eventually, but here are a few things I’ve done recently:

Not only am I spending time meditating on scripture in an artistic way, I’m learning to let go of some of my perfectionist tendencies.  My artwork is not perfect, and I’m okay with that (mostly).

Well, friends, I hope you are all doing well and have a fabulous week!  I’m off to make a menu and grocery list… something else that has been put on the back-burner since starting work!  Yet life goes on, and my kids still want to eat.  Every. Single. Day!
