Monday Musings

My baby has been sick for the past 5 days.  Nothing wrong but fever and a little congestion, but at one point it was over 104.  Poor baby.  Today she woke up with a normal temp for the first time in almost a week — let’s hope it means she’s on the mend!

I am reading the book “One Thousand Gifts” for the third time.  It’s had such a profound impact on my life.  I decided to participate in the #JoyDare this year, the challenge to record my own 1000 gifts, and am already seeing a change in my self-talk.  I am constantly on the lookout for things to be thankful for and God is showing me things I have taken for granted in the past.  I took my shower this morning and realized how we have the perfect amount of water pressure.  What a blessing!

Speaking of reading, I may have to re-evaluate this whole reading for pleasure goal.  While I do believe it’s a good thing to read more, I am not good at reading in moderation, if that makes any sense.  I picked up a pretty hefty book the other day — it was over 1900 pages on my iPad, but I think it’s somewhere between 800-900 in hardback, so not really a short book… but all I wanted to do was read until I finished it.  It took me a couple of days.  But I stayed up way later than I should have for two nights in a row, and I’m pretty sure not much got done around the house, either.  Maybe I’ll have to ration the next book out, or not start a new one until next month, since I’ve already read my two for the month.  I’ll have to think on this a little.

On Saturday night, another mom and I facilitated the kidnapping of my oldest’s small group leader.  We brought her back unharmed, despite the girls plans to toss her in the trunk.  We took her to dinner for her birthday.  It was lots of fun & the girls had a blast.

Not to be repetitive, (I tweeted this already), but I want a cute mug that says “Accio Coffee”.  I figured someone had made one before, and looked online.  There were a couple, but none of them were “cute.”  So, I’ll have to either wait or make my own.  Hmm.  Anyone ever decorated a coffee mug that could be washed in the dishwasher?  Dishwasher-safe is a deal-breaker.  I’ll admit it.  I’m a lazy dish-washer.

Have I mentioned I love my Keurig?  Seriously.  Love.

My spice shelves in my pantry are completely out of control.  There must be a better way to store all these than taking up so many shelves in the pantry.  If you have any great organizational tips, feel free to share!

I have no problem going without sugar for a month, but I have such little willpower when it comes to fresh bread.  Hubby bought some at Panara this past weekend to go with some soup I made, and I seriously could not keep away.  I have grand ideas about living on a Paleo diet, but the no bread will be the ruin of me.

So, it took me a while to write this post… the fever is back.  99.5.  *Sigh*

I am not a fan of yoghurt.  Blech.

I don’t like smoothies either.  I’m not a fruity-drink kind of gal.  They make me gag.

I feel like everything is clicking lately and I’m just where I need to be… life is almost too perfect.  My spiritual life has blossomed in the past few years, and while I feel there is always room to grow and improve, I am content.  Which scares me a little.  Do you ever just have this ominous feeling that Satan is about to throw some darts your way?  Because you are thriving too well?  It may seem silly, but I have this feeling like I’m almost expecting him to try something because he sees my progress in God’s kingdom and that I am making a difference.  He won’t win.  But sometimes I’m afraid of what he may try.

On that heavy note, I need to wrap this up.  Lunch break is over and we need to get back to our schoolwork.

Happy Monday All!

Just to clarify, it was NOT my idea to throw Mrs. Shelly in the trunk. :)

make sure she doesnt have the flu…Jarrett was the exact same way, nothing but fever. Test was positive for Type “B” whatever that is (basically without the aches, etc.). We just did the little clinic at Walgreens and were out in 15 mins. Getting the Tamiflu medicine on the other hand….not so easy, ended up in Alvin.

She tested negative for flu last week. :(
We are going back in this afternoon to do bloodwork and check her white blood cell count.

Ah, well, I spoke too soon… she tested positive for Type “B” on test number two. But we’ve already had it for 5 days, so no Tamilflu for us. Just to let it finish running its course.

I understand … A little about what you said about Satan throwing you a curve ball. I’ve never articulated it in my head like you did, but I’ve often wondered if I can be too thankful for something. I wake up in the morning and my first conscious thought is “Dear God, thank you for this man.” I think I spend more time thanking God for Derek than I do thanking God for His Son. So I have tried to thank God for Jesus first.

    Sorry about Clara. Poor thing
