It’s blogging day! I know… it’s been a while. Life has been busy.
My older two daughters were in productions at their schools for the past two weeks. They both did great jobs. I was a little more involved in Lila’s show, as I stepped in to be the volunteer coordinator after her theatre teacher went on leave. It was a lot of work, but I actually enjoyed getting to know the kids and some of the parents. It was a good way to meet people.
So, life is now calmer and back to “normal” – though for us, crazy tech weeks are pretty normal by now. I must say, I was pretty proud of myself because even with everything going on, I was able to still provide meals for my family at home, and our eating out was minimal.
We’ve been in our new home 5 months now, and we’re still looking for a church. We’re still hopping between two — each that has its pluses and minuses. I know there’s no such thing as a perfect church, because it’s made up of imperfect people. But what we left was pretty close, so it’s a struggle to find something that feels like “home” after that. Tears are not infrequent on Sundays. I’m just ready to feel connected again.
I did enroll in a non-denominational Bible study that I was invited to by a theatre mom. It’s over the second half of the book of Matthew (they did the first half last fall) and so far I’m really enjoying it.
I’ve been participating in a bookish photo challenge over on Instagram. It was probably one of the personal highlights of my January. It’s been fun to craft some images again, and books make lovely subjects.
Speaking of books, have you heard of Thriftbooks? They have a website and an app, and it’s sort of like Half Price Books but online. I have used it twice recently. The first time, I got 4 books for $20, and they were all in excellent condition! The second time I spent $6.00 on a book ($4.50 plus tax and shipping), and it looks brand new. Shipping is a little longer than my 2 day Prime shipping, but hey – a good deal may be worth it. If you click on the link above, it will give you 15% off your first order (for the next two weeks I think). Try them out — they’re not paying me — they’re just really cool.
My mom introduced me to essential oils, and I’m hooked. I’ve mostly diffused them, but have also used a few topically. It’s hard not to want all. the. oils. but I’m working on building my stash slowly. The family favorite is definitely peppermint. My youngest feels like it helps with her allergies. She wears a diffuser necklace to school with drops of peppermint on it. I like to use the purification blend to deodorize a room. I like it, but my husband says it smells like musty socks. Guess you can’t please everyone…
I’ve already ditched my new year goals and have been eating terribly. Today is reboot day. I’ve set myself a new goal to lose 40 pounds. And I have in mind a reward for myself when I reach the goal. I’m too chicken to share it yet — so as it gets closer we’ll see.
Allright… I’m off to make Naan. Which seems counter-productive to the aforementioned goal, but I’m not planning on actually eating any. Still have to feed my family!
Have a great week friends!
