Happy Mothers’ Day week! This week we are showcasing some of our favorite moms. THIS mom would be at the TOP of any favorite mom list… just under our own. In fact, as long as I can remember, I’ve called her “Mama Faul.” Kathy’s children are my age and she was a big part of my church “tribe” growing up. I have many fond memories of her helping backstage with the puppet ministry. Good times.
How many children do you have and what are their ages?
2 that are 42 and 35.
How did you come up with the names of your children?
Holly who was born in June…got her name because we were looking for a name that a grandchild that was #23 that hadn’t already been used and we could agree on! Justin Bryan was born 6 years after his grandfather, Jean Baptiste Faul had passed away. We wanted Justin to have the same initials as his grandfather (who went by JB a lot of the time).
What is a book that you like to give as a gift?
I don’t normally give books to adults but to kids…the Sunday School teacher in me always looks for a book with a Bible story!
What is your favorite “go-to” recipe?
Shrimp etouffee or smothered pork chops! But then there is gumbo!
What is a quality you admire in your own mother?
My mother was a complicated woman, but I would say that being perseverance was a quality that stands out. In whatever project or circumstance she would see it through. Don’t quit, don’t give up.
What advice would you give to a mom of a Kindergartner?
Enjoy each day! They grow up so fast, the speed of light doesn’t compare. Start teaching them that doing well in school is important but they won’t always do things perfectly and that is okay. Just try again. It’s okay not to be perfect or first…but only if you have tried your best! It’s okay to stand up for yourself!
If you could choose a gift to receive for Mothers’ Day, what would it be?
A phone call from my kids. When you get to be an “old” mom, just the sound of your children’s voices mean a lot. We’ll take gifts we can hold in our hearts…not our hands!
List 5 of your favorite things.
- Spending time with my husband. He’s my best bud.
- Love to cook outdoors-not so much in the kitchen!
- Genealogy research
- I have developed a new fav thing-Bible writing. Writing a group of scriptures each day on a specific topic (in my little spiral notebook).
Share a favorite parenting memory.
Standing in church singing a hymn and having 4 year old Justin belting out “Ole Yeller” and Holly being so embarrassed that she reverted to calling me “MO-THER” instead of Mom! But with old moms…there are lots of good memories!
Thank you, Mama Faul, for sharing with us! You are such a blessing!
