Mamaw’s Orange Slice Cookies

This is a dessert that takes me back to my childhood.  It’s one of those recipes that has been handed down through at least four generations now.  I never did understand why they were called orange slice cookies, though, since they are clearly bars.  Whatever they are, they’re yummy, and they remind me of fall and the holidays.

Mamaw’s Orange Slice Cookies

1 box brown sugar (2.5 cup packed)
1 small package orange slice candies
1 cup nuts
2 cups flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. orange flavoring
4 eggs
2 T melted butter

Mix eggs and brown sugar together.  Chop nuts and orange slices into flour, then add melted butter to eggs and sugar.  Mix in flour with nuts and orange slices.  Bake in 2 square cake pans or 1 large cake pan 30 minutes at 350℉.   Cool.  Cut into squares.  Dip cut squares in sugar.

P.S.  I leave out the nuts! ~Mama Tutu
