Happy Valentine’s Day!

Oh, you noticed… it’s not Valentine’s Day anymore.  Oh well.  I had the best of intentions.  In fact, I have several blog posts circling around in my head about Valentines Day… it would have been good if I had written one a day leading up to the 14th.  But that would have taken much forethought, of which I seem to have none lately, so you get this rambling post.

It seems like everyone has an opinion about Valentine’s Day.  It’s an either “really love it” or “really hate it” kind of day.  To the point of giddiness/bitterness that I just don’t want to deal with.  Me, I guess I’m somewhere in the middle.  I do think Valentine’s Day has been over-commercialized.  But in all fairness, what holiday hasn’t?  Do I enjoy a day that focuses on recognizing our sweethearts for being the awesome people they are?  Sure.

This is my 18th year to have the same Valentine.  Over the years, we’ve added three more.  Spending a special evening with them all is the perfect way for me to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

We decided to have a fancy meal at home… dressy clothes and all.  The girls chose the main dish – steak.  (Girls after my own heart).  We added other family favorites – fresh green beans, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, corn on the cob & rolls.

Did you notice the nice place card at the top of the image?  Place cards, neatly folded cloth napkins and candles decorated the table.  For dessert we had homemade chocolate-dipped strawberries and creme brulee!  It was the first time I’ve made it, and I must say, it turned out pretty yummy.  For those of you who are interested, I used THIS recipe… and I broiled them at the end in the oven because I didn’t have a food torch.  They turned out fine.

I got lots of homemade Valentines full of homemade coupons that I adored, a sweet card that made me tear up and a iTunes gift card from hubby.  I asked him not to do anything big, reminding him that the same did not apply to our 15 year anniversary coming up in June.

The day ended with me in a nice hot bubble bath while my husband tucked in the kiddoes.  All in all, a perfect evening!
