Continuing to STRIVE.

As I mentioned before, my theme for 2012 is to STRIVE.  Since it’s already a new month, I figured it would be a good time for an update.

In the health and fitness category, things are going well.  I am continuing with the Couch to 5K program and have made it to Week 6!  My last run was a doosey ~ 20 straight minutes of running – over 1 mile without stopping!  And I did it!  In the rain, no less.  This from a person who a month ago could not run 3 minutes straight without getting winded and 5 minutes seemed impossible!  I’m certainly not fast ~ I have the pace of a turtle, but as my oldest daughter says, “The tortoise wins the race.”  I’ll work on speed later.  Since the beginning of January I am down 13 pounds.  It’s a start.

School is going well.  I have made a dedicated effort to stay on top of academics, and if we miss something, we make it up quickly.  Our Texas History unit is going really well, and I think the girls are enjoying it.  We are using some books as read-alouds that were some of my favorites as a child.  The kids got amused seeing me tear up while reading “Where the Red Fern” grows, and they are rolling with laughter at parts of “Indian in the Cupboard.”  It’s hard to turn them down when they beg for “One more chapter!!!”  We do language, math, Bible and science as well.  We’re all plugging right along.

On the homefront, it’s a mixed bag.  I’m still not as on top of things as I’d like to be.  Both my bedroom and closet are still a mess, and there is still a volcanic pile of clean laundry in the front room.   But we have managed to keep the house straighter than usual in general, and I think we only ate out 4 times last month  – one nice dinner date for Kevin’s birthday, one weekend meal at a Wings place, and two “after church” quickies, so I’ve been on top of meal-planning and cooking.

I’m staying on track of my spiritual goals as well.  I have not missed a day in my daily Bible reading, and feel very at peace right now in my walk.  After a couple of up and down years, I feel like I am right now fully aware of God and his blessings in my life.  Several things lately have happened that I believe are a direct answer to prayer and I am so thankful.  God is good.  Always.
