This YA book is one a Facebook friend recommended.  After reading that the author was a professor at Pepperdine University and reading reviews of the book I decided to give it a read.  I loved it!  The book was clean and unobjectionable with the exception of the 17 year old heroine drinking a rum and coke at a party.  The book follows the story of Clara (love the name, but I’m partial, of course), who is a quarter angel.  As with all angel-bloods, her life centers around her “purpose” – the one calling in her life for which she is placed on earth.  It’s an interesting concept, this purpose.  This unique take on the coming of age story is full of engaging twists and turns, and in the end, the way Clara reacts when it’s time for her to fulfill her “purpose” only leaves more questions… which I’m guessing will be covered in books 2 and 3 of the series (books I will soon be reading!)  I gave it 5 of 5 stars on Goodreads, and can’t wait to read the others.

Edited to add… I finished the series…

I loved this series so much and was sad for it to end.  I wasn’t completely thrilled with the ending of the third book… but won’t spoil it by speaking about it.  They were pretty intense, so if you are going to read them with your children, you may want to preview them first.  Even though they’re pretty clean, they deal with more mature topics than I would want my girls reading.  They are good reads for teens or adults, though!

Hallowed – 5 of 5 Stars
Boundless – 4 of 5 Stars (because of ending… but the rest of the book I loved!)
