I had high hopes for this recipe. I love making homemade breads. Topped with a pat of butter, there’s not much better than fresh bread still warm from the oven. The whole family enjoys the bread they serve as an appetizer at the Outback Steakhouse, so I thought I’d give this recipe a try.
Original Recipe: Outback Steakhouse Sweet Brown Bread by Bri’s Kitchen
Modifications & Procedure: When I followed the directions for this one and got to the part where the dough was supposed to no longer be sticky, it was still VERY sticky. So, I decided to add some regular flour until it was the right consistency. Only problem was, I was out of bread flour, so I used whole wheat flour. I ended up adding about 2 cups of flour additional to what the recipe called for. It rose as normal, and so I went with it.
Verdict: The bread was heavy and dense. I’m not sure if it was completely due to using the wheat flour, or just the recipe itself, because the yeast proofed very well, so I don’t think it had anything to do with the yeast. I am usually a lover of all kinds of bread, but this one wasn’t that great. The funny thing is, that just yesterday when someone asked Miss Pickypants (Child #3) what her favorite new recipe had been this month, she stated it was this bread. Go figure.
This is Day 21 of a 31 day series on actually cooking recipes I’ve pinned.
