31 Days of Music: Our Wedding Songs

WeddingSongsHubby and I had a traditional church of Christ wedding in 1997, so all of our music was sung a capella by a group of 9 friends from the congregation I worshiped with while in college.  Having sung in weddings myself, and being a lover of music, we had more music than typical during the wedding ceremony.

Our Songs:

Make of Our Hands – The classic love song from West Side Story
Whither Thou Goest – Taken from Ruth 1:16-17, when Ruth explains to Naomi that she will not leave her.
Just a Closer Walk with Thee – Traditional Hymn
Blest Be the Tie – Another Hymn with ties to my youth group years.  We used to close every one of our teen devos with this song.  “Blessed be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love…”
The Wedding Song – Written in 1969 by Paul of “Peter, Paul & Mary” for Peter’s wedding.
Friends – Written by Michael W. Smith.  This one was used when our wedding attendants walked down the isle.
Faithful and True – The classic “Here Comes the Bride” tune.
Sunrise, Sunset – From Fiddler on the Roof.  Sigh.
The Lord Bless You and Keep You – We had the congregation sing this as our Recessional.  Oh how I love the 7-fold Amen.

That is what we walked out to, too! And we had All I Ask of You from Phantom (but I had music to that one – gasp! My dad said it was better to ask for forgiveness and since it wasn’t a church song (or a church service), he let me! I loved our songs… I think I need to go remind myself what they all were! I love singing songs on Sundays and one comes up that we had in our wedding and Derek and I look at each other and I melt a little….

I love “All I Ask of You”! It was on my list too… but I already had so many. :)
