31 Days of Music: Friend Like Me

We’re back to Broadway today.  As I’ve mentioned before, my girls love to listen to Broadway show tunes in the car.  They’ve recently been hitting “repeat” on this one, from the Broadway version of Aladdin.  When my kids listen to Disney songs, they are amazed that I know all the words.  I spent lots of time listening to Disney soundtracks as a teen, and Aladdin came out while I was in high school, so it was of course a favorite.  Robin Williams was SO good in this movie.  Sigh.

The Broadway version of “Friend Like Me” is based on the movie version, but it has a few extra things thrown in.  My kids especially like the part in the middle where the Genie bursts into songs from Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid.  Here’s a fun clip of the song performed by the Aladdin cast at this year’s Tony awards:

Fabulous, isn’t it?
