31 Days of Meal Planning ~ Kitchen Tips

So, kitchen tips aren’t really essential in planning meals, but it does make the meal process oh-so-much-easier, so I figured I’d take some time today to give  you a few of my favorite kitchen tips.

Clean Before You Start
My kids get irritated with me sometimes because I feel the need to have a clean kitchen before I start to cook anything new.  But I love to cook in a clean kitchen, and it makes the mess that much less when it’s time to clean up afterwards.

Clean as You Go
Seriously, this old trick that your mother tried to teach you years ago works!  When you clean as you go, it makes the after-dinner dish cleaning feel SO less daunting!

Chop Once!
Frequently I have recipes all throughout the week that use the same ingredients like chopped onions, tomatoes, or cilantro.  Why do all the prep multiple nights?  The first time you use the ingredient, go ahead and chop all you need for the week, then keep what’s left in an air-tight container in the fridge.  You’re already ahead for the next time you need it, and you only had to get your knife and cutting board messy once!

Favorite Kitchen Items
Not a tip necessarily, but my kitchen wouldn’t be complete without the following:  a good knife, an immersion blender, plastic (bendable) cutting mats, a cast-iron pan and a nice dutch oven.

Post Your Menu
I have a cute chalkboard I made just for listing the week’s meals.  It makes you more accountable to the family and more likely to stay on track!
